What is a scam phone call and SMS?
Scam calls are on the rise, with callers pretending to be from official organizations like the ATO or police. They often try to pressure you into thinking you’ve done something wrong or that urgent action is needed. They might ask you to download programs like ANYDESK or TEAMVIEWER, giving them access to your devices. Sometimes they even demand payment or ask for personal information.
Scam SMS messages are also common, claiming urgent actions needed, like paying a fake toll notice or providing delivery details. These texts usually contain links to unsecure websites asking for personal and financial info. Remember, reputable organizations rarely ask for this info via SMS, so be cautious if you receive such messages.
